I can't really call myself a writer. I hated english class in school. It wasn't until my late college years that I started to really understand essay writing as meaningful and worthwhile. Even later did I rekindle the flame for reading. I loved reading as a kid, specifically the Warriors books, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and various teenaged spy novels. I felt that seeing those turbulent and interesting worlds helped make sense of my own, which was rather calm compared to many. I had lofty goals of becoming a musician or professional athlete, but a sliver of me always thought it would be fun to write my own stories. I had a few chances to do this in school, mostly in one off projects that required participation more than anything, but the fire to write outside of class never happened. It only came to me after years of reading as an adult. My current interest is mostly as a fun hobby that I can post online. There's no thought of "making it" or turning my writing into something profitable. I just want to live up to the ideas of a younger me.
fiction works
I've yet to write any fiction, but the ideas are beginning to claw at the walls of my brain. There may be an appalachian horror project in the works with a close friend, but time will tell if we can make it work.
nonfiction
On Quarter Zips is my first web-published piece. It let me ease some internal distress I had about being the only non-professional in a group. Even though I followed the same paths as my peers, I ended up way behind them in any conventional measure of success.
